Hollywood and Halloween Costumes Go Hand in Hand

Every year Hollywood has a big effect on the popularity of Halloween costumes and this year is no different. Whether it's a movie based in comedy, action, drama, mystery or sci-fi there is always a character or characters that seem to reach out to moviegoers just begging to be portrayed in costume during the Halloween season.

This year there were a lot of action/adventure superheroes to pick from. The most popular by far would be The Dark Knight which was released on July 18th bringing with it two very distinguished characters; Batman and The Joker. Not only will we see a lot of Batman and Joker costumes this Halloween, but the superhero Batman has been a staple of every little boy's Halloween costume for many, many years. Some other superhero action movies released this year that will have costumes flying off the shelves in stores are The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Hellboy II, Indiana Jones and Hancock. This summer gave us plenty of superheroes to look up to along with some great costume ideas for Halloween.

Recently a movie was released featuring a little bit of everything, action, adventure, suspense, sci-fi and good versus evil but with an added bonus for children, it's animated. Star Wars: The Clone Wars is the first ever animated Star Wars feature film by Lucasfilm Ltd and Warner Brothers. The original Star Wars franchise started May 1977 and has since generated approximately 4.3 billion in revenue from six Star Wars films. Every little boy has wanted to be Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader and every little girl has dreamed of being Princess Lea. The Clone Wars covers an exciting era in Star Wars saga occurring between Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The costumes for the characters in this animated movie are amazing and I'm sure we'll be seeing the likes of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and a few Clone Troopers on Halloween night.

7 Hot Men's and Boy's Movie Costumes For Halloween 2009

Which costumes will be hot during Halloween 2009? Here is a list of 7 costumes which I predict will be white hot for men and boys.

Logan Wolverine Costumes -- Why it's hot -- the release of the prequel X-Men Wolverine movie has made Wolverine a hot costume this year. However it is not the number one costume of the year, because of its early release in May. While it's still will be a popular costume, this Halloween, it won't be as popular as new costumes.

What's available -- The Wolverine costume from the X-Men comic book looks nothing like the movie costume. If you choose the comic book costume, look for a yellow Lycra muscle -- suit with a helm with black pointy ears.

The new Logan costume is motorcycle leather with a weak styled after the main character.

Both costumes will meet the claws which are available at most costume shops.

Star Trek Costumes -- Why it's hot -- Another movie prequel release this year, this time featuring the original Star Trek characters with new faces. The costumes are basically the same may be a little sleeker and available at every costume shop online.

Transformers -- Why it's hot -- the sequel to the smash hit Transformers will be released during the summer. Expect a high popularity of the transformer costumes in the fall.

What's available -- Bumblebee costume, Optus Prime, Megatron and Jazz are all available costumes for this wildly popular film.

Public Enemies Costumes -- the 1930s gangsters are coming back with a bang. Johnny Depp stars as old-time gangster John Dillon. This period in history has always had a certain glamour associated with it.

What's available -- there are plenty of use use and gangster costumes available with toy Tommy guns. Stick with the black-and-white pinstripe suits and stay away from the zoot suits.

A Green and Purple Halloween - Quick Guide to the Incredible Hulk Movie Costumes

According to Marvel comics, gamma ray turns you green. At least that's how it's been since 1962 when the Hulk was brought to life by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. She-Hulk, Doc Samson, and the Leader all share origins with the Hulk from gamma ray exposure and they all have green skins.

So in 2003, upon release of Ang Lee's Hulk movie, lots of fans ran around in green bodypaint hopefully with purple pants (or any pants), and a bad hair cut. The 2003 Hulk movie really made a splash in the costuming world. There were plenty pictures of fans in conventions dressed up as the green goliath, although some were not so goliath.

The recent release of the 2008 movie, The Incredible Hulk, adds another version of the Hulk's costume in the mix. Although the differences are minor, there are enough variances between the two Hulks that are noticeable. Note too that we're only talking about Hulk movie costumes here. The Red Hulk and Gray Hulk will be subjects of another article at another time.

Can you use the old Hulk costume to represent?

If your child was a toddler or infant then, the answer is obviously no since he or she is five years older now and the costume wouldn't fit. But you should learn the difference in case they want to be the Hulk again for Halloween this year and they know the difference.

First, note that many fans regard the 2008 movie as more loyal to the comic books. This mainly means the storyline, the villain, and the supporting characters. The 2003 movie is so universally rejected that the 2008 movie was dubbed a reboot. Basically, the fans view it as a "do over" so that the 2003 movie can be filed away.

But, here's a caveat for costuming. The 2003 Hulk image resembles the comic book Hulk better than the 2008 Hulk. Mainly, the trademark green skin and purple pants are better represented in the 2003 Hulk.

The 2008 Hulk is not far off, but he has variances. First, he doesn't wear the traditional purple pants. But the purple pants made the movie as an easter egg. Second, he has a darker shade of green and his veins show as noticeable streaks of an even darker shade of green. And lastly, his muscles are shown to ripple. Both the veins and the rippled muscles remind me of roided out wrestlers when straining for attention.

The above bit of information is helpful to you if the 2003 Incredible Hulk costume still fits any of your children. Maybe the teen can pass down the Hulk costume to the younger boy (or girl). You may be able to save money and reuse the '03 costume by telling them that it's the better version because it looks just like the comic books.
