Boys History Costumes

History may be horrible, but it's also incredibly cool and interesting. Dressing up in a historical costume is one of the most awesome experiences around, as you can magically send yourself back in time to any period you want. Middle Ages? No problem. Victorian times? In a flash! Whatever period you're looking to explore, there are loads of fancy dress costumes that will help you take a trip back in time easily and quickly - and you won't need a time machine.

If you love the ancient world, choosing a costume based on the Ancient Egyptians is a great choice. They existed in a truly fascinating period of history - everyone knows about the amazing Pyramids at Giza, and also about the gruesome practice of mummification (ewww!). You could choose to dress as a powerful and wise Pharoah, or alternatively as a terrifying Mummy to scare everyone else at the party with your hands outstretched.

Alternatively explore Ancient Rome with its fierce and bloody battles and brutal Emperors. There are so many famous characters from Ancient Rome that you're truly spoilt for choice - try dressing up as Julius Caesar in a flowing white toga or as a fearsome gladiator complete with armour, sword, shield and a roar to make lions turn around and run until they can't run any more. Nothing will make you feel more incredible than when you're dressed as a mighty centurion.

Head a big further towards the present day and you could explore the Tudor period, if you're a fan of Henry VIII and his six wives! Dress up as the big man himself, as a court jester or as an authentic Tudor boy. Want something even more recent? No problem - you can even get boys World War II costumes! Pay homage to the brave men and women who died by dressing up in an awesomely realistic outfit, such as an evacuee or soldier!

Interesting Facts About Babies

Sure you know that most of a baby's day involves sleeping eating and bowel relief. Do you understand why a baby will move his body the way he does? Have you figured out the secret to infant development? Most people don't concern themselves with the smaller details of a baby's growth. Other parents decide to learn everything they can about the way their child grows and develops as it gets older.

Babies are never dull! Think of what you know about babies and toss half of it out-you've been given a lot of bad information! Here are some things that you might be interested in knowing about babies and how they develop.

Babies are not skilled at telling the difference between most of the colors they see. Not only does it take a while for the synapses in a baby's brain to fully connect, their eyes take a few months to mature as well. This is one of the reasons why babies respond better to primary colors whey they are used in a room or on toys. Bold reds, blues, greens and even black and white are best for babies. In the eyes of a baby, a lot of pastel colors look pretty much the same.

This is why a baby will sometimes choose one toy instead of another. What this means is that all of the black and white stuff that you think of as ugly is actually better for your baby's eyesight and brain development than the more traditional and popular pastel based decorations and toys.

Your baby, in spite of not being able to talk right away, will amaze you with the range of sounds that he or she can make almost as soon as he or she is born. This is because the larynx (or voice box) is still developing after babies are born. It is due to this that a baby can make more sounds than an adult can make. Pay attention to your baby's sounds: it won't take long for him to assign specific sounds to specific needs or things. This is the way babies teach their parents how to get them what they want-as long as the parents are paying attention they can usually figure it out within a moment or two. Typically, most of a baby's beginning vocabulary will consist of easy vowels and consonants that he can make using only the front of his mouth. It is because of this that a baby's first word is usually "dada" and not "mama": dada is easier to imitate and is almost always a surprise to both the parent and the baby!

Most people believe that babies do not know how to smile before they are born. Smiling is often attributed to gas or the baby's having to go to the bathroom-at least until it reaches a few weeks in age. For decades most people believed that babies had to learn how to smile-that it was a condition picked up by the infant early in life. Disapproval and unhappiness were thought to be easier for a baby to express than happiness. Now we know better. Smiling has been picked up by newer ultrasound machines, proving the old theories are wrong. Doctors are now able to give parents pictures of their children's' smiles weeks before the children are due to be born. Common belief now is that the birthing process is so traumatic for infants that they do not smile until they have gotten over the shocking change in environments.

There are lots of things about babies that most people do not know. Early childhood development is amazing. The more you know about the subject the more you will enjoy watching your children grow up!
