Popular Halloween Costumes For Teenage Girls

Image : http://www.flickr.com

It is always a stressful job for parents to find the best Halloween costume for their children. Usually the girls are the most demanding. So here are some of the popular Halloween costumes for teenage girls to make it easier on you.

Pre-teen girls prefer to wear dresses and go as princesses. This is different for teenagers, they like to be the center of attention and therefore their costumes have to be unique, specific, dark, scary and those are most of the time very expensive.

Some of those well liked are the Hello Kitty Charlstone Kitty Girl Teen Costume or Jazzy Baby.

Others prefer to be more of the original type and search for something that has not been seen before. The most popular are the Cavewoman costume, which includes a dress and a club. Another interesting idea for two teenage girls is to go as a pair of dice, this can also be home made and it will cost you less than $20.

If there is a group of four girls there is a very easy solution, they can chose to dress as four seasons. This is simple and very interesting; all you need is a little imagination. And we all know that teenage girls walk together so this should be an easy and fun idea from them.

Moms, keep in mind that dressing up as a devil or an angel is not so popular these days, but if you add a third person, a "normal" person in the center, with a devil and an angel by your side you get an interesting new concept.

Other costumes that are popular but still not so original are pirate girl costumes, as well as gypsy's costume. As gypsies, they can go around and tell people's fortune all night cool fun and not so expensive.

Charlie's Angels is hits the target, gives them all the liberty to dress up, and they can go in a group of three.

Mom's I know that they are your babies, but the reality is that they are in transition of getting into the adult stage, so make sure you let them make their own choice. This list of popular Halloween Costumes for teenage girls is just an aid to help you out.

School Girl Outfit for a Costume Party

Image : http://www.flickr.com

It has always been nice seeing children wear their school outfits. Other than it makes us see that the world is finally in tune when the kids are around, it makes us see discipline and loyalty to one's alma mater. However, a school boy outfit or a school girl outfit can also be worn as a costume by adults who wants a taste of being called to the principal's office. Of course, this is not just referring to the stuff that the world has to offer for those people wearing school uniforms as costumes, it also make us see that a uniform that shows discipline and loyalty can be twisted and be seen as a uniform of the person that tried to bend the rules for a party.

If you have always been daddy's little girl wearing a princess fairy costume or a princess costume every Halloween, well, it is about time to get out of your shell and find out what deviance has to offer you this coming costume party. You can even wear it at the upcoming Spring Fling or Homecoming party. The only key factor is making sure that you get out of your way and see that the world is yours for the taking while in the costume. Knock yourself out with the attention that the crowd will give with the nice and/or naughty attitude that you will pair up with the school girl outfit. Be ready to drive the crowd wild and be ready to shine and see how a simple uniform can change your life and the way people look at you for the rest of your life.

Finally, be prepared to be asked questions like "What are you wearing?" or "Is that a School Girl Outfit? Be gracious enough to tell them that it is your outfit from the school of girls and that you just want to have fun.

Fabulous 50's Costumes Ideas For Halloween

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The 50's costume ideas are endless. You can dress up as a greaser like those notorious Pink Ladies and T-birds like Sandy or Zuko from the musical, Grease. Or you can take the prep road with a poodle skirt and saddles shoes while your date dresses up in a bowling shirt. Then there are the stars of the 50's whose costumes are recognizable right away, stars like Elvis and Marilyn Monroe.

If you like the sound of the Greaser costume idea you can find plenty of clothing and wigs from your local or online Halloween costume stores. Grease along with The Outsiders, The Lords of Flatbush and Streets of Fire give us a great idea of how these costumes should look. The bad boy and girl greaser costumes should always have a leather jacket, unless you go for the all pink Pink Ladies jackets that the greaser girls wore in the movie Grease.

Big hair do's were all the rave back then to. So if you have ever wanted to sport a "Beehive" Halloween is the time to do it. There are lots of wigs you can choose from or you can just wear a pony tail. If you are a fan of Frenchie. the beauty school student in Grease, you can go for the dyed pink hair look.

The greasers were the opposite of the preps. Those goodie two shoes who wore bowling shirts, nerd looking jackets and poodle skirts topped with twin sweater sets. Add a pair of saddle shoes and black glasses and you've achieved that oldies but goodies look easily. The prom king and prom queen costumes are another popular prep disguise you can think about.

Stars of the 50's are always fun costume ideas. The I Love Lucy Show is a fun TV show to get your Halloween costume ideas from. Dress up like the stay at home housewife or as the Latin band leader. Elvis and Marilyn are another famous 50's couple who have their very own costumes for sale...a true sign of superstardom! There are also some very cute dresses with big skirts that have a crinoline underneath. They were popular in the days of the Poodle Skirt too.

You can also choose the soda shop or drive through waitress costume. Between this, the greaser and the prep costume ideas you should be able to come up with a fun Halloween costume from this era. Whether you want to be the King or Danny Zuko or even Buddy Holly, you will find all the costumes and accessories you need to pull of that 1950's look with ease.

Disney Princess Costume - Great Fun for Dress Up and Halloween!

Image : http://www.flickr.com

At some time in their life, every girl will want to wear a gorgeous Disney princess costume. They watch the movies about Cinderella, Belle, Princess Tiana, and Snow White. Dressing up in a Disney princess costume is a rite of passage. Children are excited and enchanted with pretend. Having them wear the outfit of a princess helps them feel that much closer to being a princess.

Disney princess costumes can be used for the yearly Halloween trick or treat, but girls love to play dress up. As a child, I spent hours with friends acting out plays of Snow White and Cinderella. My friends and I took turns being the princess and the evil witch. It was a wonderful activity for us as having a friend participate seemed to make it that much more real that we were Disney princesses. Occasionally, we would watch the movie in our dress up outfits. I don't know if we needed a reminder about what happened next or if we were just tired and wanted to munch on popcorn.

There are many different princesses now. Disney princess costumes can be anywhere from Mermaids to Tinkerbells. You have different ethnic costumes as well. Princess Tiana is the latest Disney Princess and she is African American. Disney has added quite a bit of diversity to their princesses. Gone are the days of blue eyed blond haired princesses. Your child will not feel like they aren't quite right for the part because they have dark hair. There are plenty of dark haired princesses now.

It is simple to make a Princess Costume. You just need to think pretty. You can choose a pattern online or you can assemble a beautiful outfit yourself. One of the key ingredients is sparkle. Make sure the dress looks nice. You can embellish it with rhinestones, lace or glitter to turn an ordinary dress into a princess costume. You may also want to purchase some pretty slippers or a wand to complete the outfit.

Popular Character Costumes for Boys this Halloween

Image : http://www.flickr.com

When it comes to fancy dress and boys, there are some popular costumes that you will see year after year at Halloween. In the main, their popularity comes from the fact that they can be - and are - worn throughout the year in normal costume play situations.

Slowly the major fancy dress costume manufacturers have been waking up to this situation and we have recently seen a real surge in the number of new Halloween fancy dress costumes which are being specifically targeted at boys. And this is across the age ranges from small boys through the tweeny years to young teenagers. The move towards recognising that boys in the tweeny years and young teenagers still want to be part of the fun of Halloween but that they may consider the standard Batman fancy dress costume as representing something too young is a bold move and one that deserves credit. Strange that boys return to the Batman theme in their late teens and early manhood years - it's one of the most popular for Stag Nights.

Rather than simply identify what the most popular themes have been for the last few years, we would also like to identify some of the newer costumes that we predict will be taking this Halloween by storm and challenging as most popular.

Superman / Supergirl - the popularity of the character with films, cartoons, comics and other merchandising continually being refreshed means that every year Superman is spotted in towns and villages everywhere. Like good superheroes everywhere, the basic concepts stay the same but the audience is continually changing and this year a whole new generation will take on the mantle of being 'The Man of Steel'.

Batman - well, you can't seem to separate these two. Another fantastic Halloween fancy dress costume theme and there are the Classic Batman (grey suit) or the more recent, and more sinister looking, version from Batman Returns. Yes, Robin is popular, as are other superheroes - Flash, Catwoman etc but these do not rank as highly on the popularity chart as Batman.

Army Soldier - always popular but showing a steady growth, probably due to recent world events. Battle fatigues and camouflage makeup to complete the look. This is not a good costume for going trick or treating in as it does not stand out at all - see our safety tips below.

Ghosts and demons - these are nearly always 'special purchases' or made of the event costumes at Halloween and this reflects in their overall popularity. Traditional ghostly costumes are now being treated to a face lift with the introduction of relatively cheap and comfortable masks - mainly based on the 'Scream' movie ghost.

Klownz - note the spelling. This is one of the newer costume design ranges and has an 'edge' to the design and is sure to be popular with older boys in the tweeny to teenage bracket. Each of the costumes comes complete with a mask and the designs are more comically appealing than scary. Costumes have been styled around jackets, jumpers and trousers rather than traditional robes and this is also sure to add to their ready acceptance.

Fading light Phantoms - these costumes are more about the technology. Basically a simple costume is completed by an overhead mask into which are mounted lights which fade in and out. At night in the darkness these are spectacular and the masks are good quality and easy to wear - and more importantly, they look good too.

Some thoughts on Halloween Safety: To ensure the safety of children out on 'trick or treat' it maybe advisable to stitch some dayglo or reflective material around the cuffs and ankles of some of the costumes. Not all will stand out in the dark. Clearly all groups of children should be supervised and there should be sufficient torches to ensure that the entire group is safe when out and about. Some responsibility should be taken to ensure that not all of the children are wearing masks so as not to scare householders when they come to the door. Also when selecting 'tricks' a degree of social responsibility needs to be achieved.

Dragon Halloween Costume - Let Your Little One Roar!

The dragon Halloween Costume is perfect for your little adventurer. What little boy or girl doesn't wonder what it would be like to be a fierce fire-breathing dragon? In the right costume your little one can roar and put fear in the neighborhood this Trick or Treat season.

Does your toddler or elementary school child love adventure? Are they hooked on movies that are about dragons and far away places and fantasy? Then you may want to consider a dragon Halloween costume so they can have fun and adventure this Halloween season.

Of course you may want to be warned, this cute dragon costume may not go away easily after Halloween ends. Your child might end of playing with it for months afterwards as they play out their fantasy dragon kingdom.

Think about the fun a dragon costume can provide, with the large dragon eyes bobbing on top of their dragon hood and the horns jutting out of the sides they will have the neighborhood running for cover - if only in their imagination.

Dragons are not complete without wings and claws. Think about your child or about your childhood, how many times did you image you could fly or how you could swoop down and pick up anything you want. These adventure costumes are the source of a vivid imagination.

Of course you can steer your little dragon into the "good" dragon or "bad" dragon who wreaks havoc in the neighborhood. And the acting can all come from your child.

The nice thing about dragon Halloween costumes is that they often come as a one piece jumpsuit. Less pieces means less to get lost during the school or friend Halloween party. You may however need to instruct your little boy or girl on how to handle their newly grown tail so it does not get stepped on.

One thought is to have a dragon costume for Halloween and then use the costume again for a fun theme birthday party, your little dragon will love the fun and you will love the sight!

Buzz Lightyear Costume - Always a Hit

Buzz Lightyear is a favorite among children, particularly young boys. The character of Buzz is that of a space ranger and one of the main characters in the story, so therefore it makes sense that he is a favorite character to dress like for Halloween and other dress up games. The character represents authority combined with goodness providing order where there is chaos. He is brave and loyal even when there may be danger to himself, which makes him great role model for kids. Many boys that are dressed in the Buzz Lightyear costume take on the character that they saw in the movie and run around the house loudly yelling his slogan, one arm raised high.

Toy Story began in 1995 as a Disney Production and one of the first major computer animated films of its time. It quickly rose as one of the top films for children (and secretly for adults) as they could not get enough of the movie. Several follow up movies have been made and, then, in 2009, they released the popular Toy Story 2 as a 3-D animation release, which was particularly exciting for children everywhere.

The Buzz Lightyear character has not only been a hit with the costumes but his likeness has appeared on tee shirts, pj's and even stuffed dolls have been made in his image as well. Therefore, among children, the character is very well known and very well received all over the world. Children that dress in the Buzz Lightyear costume feel they have to imitate their super hero, which of course for adults to watch is adorable.

The costumes come in sizes from toddlers all the way to adult sizes, though the biggest sellers are definitely for children. One particularly nice thing about the Buzz Lightyear costume is that it is not just a once a year Halloween costume. In fact, many little boys love to use it as pretend and will create their whole Toy Story world right in their bedrooms. Of course, the costumes do make one of the best for Halloween, but it is definitely not a costume your child will want to put in the closet once Halloween is over. Do not be surprised if your child wants to wear it to school!

As Halloween approaches, it is a good idea to get your costume early because if you wait until the last minute the costumes may end up being sold out. If your child has his heart set on dressing up as Buzz Lightyear, it can prove to be very traumatic to not find his size, so shop early.

It is so easy now to find the Halloween costume each family member wants. You don't even have to leave your house. Simply go online to sites like Infant Halloween Costumes to see everything available. There is free shipping on many orders and you can relax while they ship it to you.

Tudor Costumes to Relive Medieval Times

Renaissance Faires have been quite popular for many years and many people just love to dress up in Medieval dress. The Fairs themselves are quite fun to attend as they also adopt the cockney accents and behavior to entertain the guests. Although we often think romantically about that time period, the Middle Ages actually had quite severe living conditions unless you were lucky enough to be born into a noble family. This period of Europe's history is still alive and well today as we can see from the recent news coverage of the Pope's visit to the United Kingdom. The 2010 news broadcasts on this historic event of the Queen and the Pope on the same podium remarked that the split between the Papacy and England goes back to the infamous Henry VIII wanting to marry Anne Boleyn!

Also fairly recent was the cable TV show called The Tudors, which showed us the exquisite gowns, not only of the royal ladies, but the gallantly dressed gentlemen. Lace and frills and swirling capes adorned both sexes during those times. Rich, thick silks, velvets and damasks not only displayed their wealth, but kept them warm in those drafty stone castles. Tudor costumes have become quite popular as a result.

The gala events at the Court were times to show off the latest gowns and fashions, much like today. Gold embroidery and lace from France indicated one could afford the very best. Anyone who loves the fashions from that time period will be happy to know that Medieval dress and Tudor Costumes are readily available now.

One can even order a gown to dress like Anne Boleyn or for young girls, there are many princess costumes to choose from. If you are the "She who must be obeyed" personality, definitely order the Queen Costume and order everyone about! Not everyone was a Royal, of course, and there are also sexy Halloween costumes like the Pirate Wench if you feel like dressing up and getting lots of attention.

The men find the Renaissance costumes appealing as well, as what little boy didn't play King Arthur and slay dragons with his sword? Now there are King, Knight and even Jester costumes to appeal to men and boys of every age group. This makes it fun for whole families to dress in a group theme and go to Halloween parties as the Royal Family.

One nice thing about buying Tudor Costumes is that you can easily use them when you attend a local Renaissance Faire or Mardi Gras celebration so you certainly get your money's worth.

When looking for Tudor Costumes and Medieval Dress, be sure to check out what is called the Deluxe version of each costume as those will really make you look and feel as though you've stepped back in time, or off the set of The Tudors, as they are exquisitely detailed and designed.

Child Pirate Activity Making a Pirate Costume

Pirates are popular this year due to the release of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Boys and girls alike can participate in this child pirate activity; making a pirate costume. A pirate costume does not need to be expensive or difficult to make. For ideas look up sketches of pirates or photos from pirate movies to see how they dressed. You will find a variety of styles.

Pirates did not have a uniform style of dress. They wore a mismatch of loose-fitting clothing, usually whatever they could find. Find your own pirate clothing by scouring second-hand stores for used clothing. Black, brown, dark green, and burnt orange are popular colors for pirate pants. Use white, ivory, purple, red or blue for shirt colors. Pick up pants and shirts that are at least one to two sizes too large.

Shorten the pants by cutting them off below the knee. Leave the pants unhemmed or cut jagged strips up to the knee for a tattered look. Take a piece of rope to tie around the waist for a belt. Roll up the shirt sleeves the elbow. A scarf, wide leather belt, or 12" x 45" piece of fabric will work to tie around the shirt.

Accessorize with black or brown shoes or boots (sometimes pirates went barefoot), a bandana tied on the head, clip on gold hoop earrings, and a toy sword stuck into their belt. If they want to wear an eye-patch, make one from a square of black felt with black elastic secured to the corners. A small stuffed parrot can be pinned onto the shoulder.

To complete the costume, practice walking with a swagger and talk like a pirate! Aaaarrgh! Ye Mates! Off with ye to hunt for treasure!

Iron Man Costumes

Because of the growing popularity of the Iron Man franchise as well as recent release of the motion picture Iron Man 2, the one-time comic series now-special effects hit will have teenage girls and boys wanting to become the Iron Man themselves this Halloween.

In the launch of the movie, movie watchers observed a greater variation of the Iron Man suit. Stark Industries, and their intelligent CEO Tony Stark, built a better model of the Iron Man outfit which they named the Mark 6 collection. The Mark 6 suit is claimed to be lighter weight, faster (in the air) and loaded with additional weaponry. Besides the standard suit, Stark Industries additionally crafted the War Machine outfit that was developed along the same composition as the Mark VI but as a result of the significant amount of weaponry, does not be as good. The War Machine outfit has been upgraded with forearm guns together with a massive gatlin gun-styled missile launcher that was mounted on the shoulder.

Without paying out thousands of dollars, (one guy estimated his custom suit cost over four-thousand dollars) - it wouldn't be feasible to create and develop a real looking costume of your own despite the fact that there are a few fairly unbelievable versions online. Those hunting for the same result having to break your budget should look into buying a costume from a specialized store that handles these things alone.

There are a number of different types of Iron Man Mark 6 outfits and by far the most real looking is the Super Deluxe version, that is built for grown ups. The costume contains a firm, plastic-molded shoulder pad - complete with leg and arm covers. Additionally, it possesses a triangular-shaped chest plate that illuminates to emulate the upgraded appearance of the Palladium arc reactor in the Mark 6 suit.

For children, there's a deluxe model of the outfit which comes detailed with the red and gold headgear for facial protection while fighting Vanko's simulated-robots plus a meticulous muscle suit - that consists of plastic framed muscle's to have a more natural look-and-feel - to give your boy the best costume you can purchase. In addition, you can purchase the costume for girl's which is constructed after the Mark 6 outfit. This costume includes a red dress with gold features, leggings, wrist cuffs as well as a mask.

The movie also introduced the captivating double agent, named the Black Widow, whose character was portrayed by actress, Scarlett Johansson. The figure dressed in a leather, body-shaped black outfit and the costume-replica (intended for adults-only) is practically identical.

Because of the additional characters and outfit updates in the second motion picture, there are a number of Iron Man costume solutions for men, women and boy's and girl's. These types of outfits could be awesome alternatives for almost any household that's trying to find combined costumes or parent/children combos. For those searching, you will find your Iron Man costumes online.

I love anything and everything pertaining to Iron Man and am excited about wearing my Mark VI costume this Halloween. You can find out more about Iron Man costumes online.

Babies are not skilled at telling the difference between most of the colors they see. Not only does it take a while for the synapses in a baby's brain to fully connect, their eyes take a few months to mature as well. This is one of the reasons why babies respond better to primary colors whey they are used in a room or on toys. Bold reds, blues, greens and even black and white are best for babies. In the eyes of a baby, a lot of pastel colors look pretty much the same.

This is why a baby will sometimes choose one toy instead of another. What this means is that all of the black and white stuff that you think of as ugly is actually better for your baby's eyesight and brain development than the more traditional and popular pastel based decorations and toys.

Your baby, in spite of not being able to talk right away, will amaze you with the range of sounds that he or she can make almost as soon as he or she is born. This is because the larynx (or voice box) is still developing after babies are born. It is due to this that a baby can make more sounds than an adult can make. Pay attention to your baby's sounds: it won't take long for him to assign specific sounds to specific needs or things. This is the way babies teach their parents how to get them what they want-as long as the parents are paying attention they can usually figure it out within a moment or two. Typically, most of a baby's beginning vocabulary will consist of easy vowels and consonants that he can make using only the front of his mouth. It is because of this that a baby's first word is usually "dada" and not "mama": dada is easier to imitate and is almost always a surprise to both the parent and the baby!

Most people believe that babies do not know how to smile before they are born. Smiling is often attributed to gas or the baby's having to go to the bathroom-at least until it reaches a few weeks in age. For decades most people believed that babies had to learn how to smile-that it was a condition picked up by the infant early in life. Disapproval and unhappiness were thought to be easier for a baby to express than happiness. Now we know better. Smiling has been picked up by newer ultrasound machines, proving the old theories are wrong. Doctors are now able to give parents pictures of their children's' smiles weeks before the children are due to be born. Common belief now is that the birthing process is so traumatic for infants that they do not smile until they have gotten over the shocking change in environments.

There are lots of things about babies that most people do not know. Early childhood development is amazing. The more you know about the subject the more you will enjoy watching your children grow up!

Pretty Cool People Interviews - Taika Waititi

Pretty Cool People Interviews are short and sweet 7-minute interviews. See them all at: www.submarinechannel.com We met Taikia Waititi at the 2007 Film Festival Rotterdam, where he presented his first feature film, 'Eagle vs Shark' - an offbeat romantic comedy featuring two socially inept misfits. The soft spoken and romantic Lily, who works the counter at a fastfood chain, has a secret crush on Jarrod, a tough looking geek/hero wannabe who works at the local electronics store. Jarrod doesn't show any interest in Lily at first. But then Lily beats everyone at a Fightman Kill-A-Thon video game tournament at a costume party at Jarrod's house. 'Eagle Vs Shark' is a sensitive film, made with a great eye for detail and respect for the characters. Taika's New Zealand style humor - comedy mixed with tragedy and pain is refreshing. Great Kids Halloween Costumes Ideas

Forty or fifty years ago, many or most kids Halloween costumes were made by mothers for their children. This was due in part to the facts that most kids costumes for that day were all simple gowns of flimsy material with plastic masks, that made a child become a witch, ghost, or fairy princess. The costumes for kids available today run the gamut from those same traditional kids costumes to magnificent creations costing hundreds of dollars. There are also kids costumes for the current cartoon character, or those in more questionable taste such as dressing the child as a toilet (and this is a manufactured costume currently for sale on the Internet!).

The first step in finding a great kids Halloween costume to listen to the child about what they want their Halloween costume to be. If a little girl has always wanted to be an Indian princess, even a simple version of this can be created from a simple brown dress, a headband, and a few feathers. Assembling this kids Halloween costume is not a difficult task. If a little boy has always wanted to be Superman, or a Power Ranger, there are wide spectrum of kids costumes available for his wish. It is good to remember that children's imaginations allow them truly feel like whatever kids Halloween costume they have on. A small boy that dresses like Superman will have a truly wonderful time even if he is only two feet tall and struggles with picking up his full bag of candy.

Since Halloween is recognized for only one or two evenings (a school carnival or neighborhood activity may give an opportunity for the kids Halloween costumes to get more than one wearing), taking the time to talk about and plan the kids costumes makes the activity more enjoyable. Also, remember that the costumes for kids may get additional wear around the house once the outdoor activities are over. Little boys and girls get just as much enjoyment using their Halloween costumes as pajamas, assuming that the costumes for kids are comfortable enough to sleep in.

Another step in finding a good Halloween costume is to remember the purposes that the kids costume will be used for. If the children are trick or treating in the neighborhood, or joining a neighborhood group at the park for games and treats, then the Halloween costume will get a good deal of wear. It should not be so complex or constricting that it will make the games difficult to play, or that the child will lay down some accessories and lose them. It may not seem like much to a parent for a princess to lose her magic wand, but it may be part of a kids costume that will be missed for weeks.

Finally, remember that a little effort may result in a kids Halloween costume that is memorable for years. One year a small girl went to a Halloween festival in an elephant costume, but this elephant was purple with white polka dots on the outside of the costume. Her mother had gone to the fabric store with her to select the material, and this kids Halloween costume was remembered fondly for years in the family. It is not necessary to be able to make such elaborate costumes, but the time spent talking and planning for the Halloween costume with the child is treasured and remembered.

BIRDPRAYERS - behind the screens

Birdprayers (2007-now) Multi-discipliner ongoing project Birdprayers is a response to the contentious issue of religious conflict. Believing that art in public space is one of the most effective means of deconstructing stereotypes, and creating an awareness of diversity and differences. An individual's perspective is closely related to personal values and judgments, but also to the feeling of safety and comfort in one's own environment. Birdprayers attempts to address the relativity of these feelings and people's sometimes rigid adherence to them. It is an interdisciplinary, intercultural and ongoing art project, which, to strengthen its power to achieve its goals, will be constructed around the world in versions specific to the locale. Each edition of Birdprayers will be accompanied by the video performance "All in the Mind", and will include a combination of installations, sculptures, drawings, paintings, prints, readings, discussions and other forms of communication, sometimes in collaboration with other artists. Till now we made three editions of the project: one on Bali (with an exhibition in Sika Gallery with paintings, drawings and sculptures) one in Yogyakarta in Indonesia (with a discussion at IVAA, Indonesian Visual Arts Archieve) and one in Istanbul. The next one will be very soon, in The Hague in The Netherlands. This is to put it all into different perspectives. Why Are So Many Drawn to the Dance of Ballet?

Who can resist the dance? The graceful beauty of dancers around the world continues to move into the hearts and minds of children everywhere. From the poorest homes to the richest estates, children are drawn to ballet dancers and their fairy tale costumes like nothing else. From the time they can walk, many children find themselves doing whatever they can to convince their parents to let them attend a local ballet class.

Although it emerged centuries ago as a dance interpretation of fencing it has become much more refined through the years. The techniques developed and used in ballets now have a strong influence on many areas of modern dance, including ballroom dancing and even new interpretations, such as hip hop ballet. Popular T.V. shows such as "So You Think You Can Dance" are consistently filled with contestants who have or are still attending ballet school. Some even go on to teach dancing styles of their own.

In fact, with so many options available to the aspiring dancer, it isn't very surprising that dancing seems to attract people from so many different walks of life. For some, this is not only an obvious extension of personal expression, but a way to a much better life.

Is it any wonder why little girls (and boys) find themselves drawn to the beauty of dance in a world that sometimes seems so drab and harsh in comparison? Give a child a pair of ballet shoes and access to some basic classes and they are on the way to their own private dream come true, regardless of whether they become famous, world renowned dancers or not.

Ballet started as the dance interpretation of fencing and over the centuries morphed into what it is today. As techniques became more and more refined, its influence on other areas of dance increased. Today, you can see how classical ballet has affected styles of ballroom dancing and the newer hip hop ballet.

No matter what the style of dance though, the ability to draw people in is universal. The popularity of ballet school and shows like "So You Think You Can Dance" prove just how attractive dance can be. In fact, it is the chance to become successful, for just about anyone with talent and a whole lot of drive, and break into the world of dance that makes it such an attractive opportunity for people from all walks of life.

Reasons for being drawn into the dance can vary as widely as the opportunities that are available. This activity is one of the few things available to just about anyone. If your child is hitting you up for such classes, then start out small.

Take them to the local theater and let them see a show. Get them into some basic classes and let them see what it is all about. After all, you may find you have the next Evelyn Cisneros or Mikhail Baryshnikov living right in your own home.

Gift Ideas for Christmas

Finding the perfect gift has to be one of the most anxiety-filled, frustrating, time consuming things we do. How about taking a look at some ideas for Christmas gifts that I
have compiled. If you are like me, you probably have to buy for all age groups and both sexes. It's not that hard, and sometimes it's as easy as just asking!

Ideas for Women

The over 18 crowd. What do women want? First of all, what women DO NOT want is anything that has to do with housework. Don't think it's a great idea to buy a vacuum cleaner or a new ironing board for Christmas.BIG no-no. Women are often both bread winners as well as mothers and housekeepers. Great ideas for women include simple gifts like candles, perfumes, and jewelry, to gifts that range from finding the perfect spa to gourmet treats to a gift certificate at her favorite beauty salon. Personalized gifts can be a real hit if you can find something she collects in her spare time.

Gifts for Men

Depending on the man you are shopping for, a gift can be of a personal nature or more mainstream. While getting a woman a traditonal household gift may not be a good idea, buying a toolbox full of nifty tools may be just the right thing for him. Does he like sports? How about buying tickets to his favorite sports event? If he's a golf nut, what about a really nice driver or putter? Perhaps coupons to play a free game at his favorite golf course? And like women, gourmet gift baskets like his favorite beef jerky, or even steaks can be bought for the man in your life. Really!

Gifts for Girls

Younger girls love dolls. Baby dolls, barbie dolls, Tiny dolls, and all the accessories that go with them. Another thing girls love are hide-aways. Big tents and playhouses give her the feeling that it's her little domain to play make-believe. Another big hit with girls is arts and crafts. Painting, coloring, beads, jewelry making; anything she can create on her own, and especially show off to her friends! Anything that spruces up her room and makes it more personal is also a great gift idea.

Gifts for Teen Girls

Music, Movies, and Gift certificates. Teen aged girls will tell you that with these three things you can't go wrong. Stuff her stocking with perfumes, makeup, and earrings, and you have yourself a very happy young woman. Of course, as they get older, they will tell you that good old cash is also a big favorite with them, so perhaps you could mix money and gifts to make for a perfect holiday, and a smiling teen!

Gifts for Boys

Boys love action and movement! Bikes, bike accessories, trampolines, scooters, balls, and more balls are perfect gifts for young boys. For quieter times, Playstation games, and all things construction! Building blocks like legos and Lincoln logs are long standing favorites for any boy. Don't forget that young boys love cars, trucks, motorcycles, rockets and planes. Whether he just wants to pretend with them, or wants to build them, anything motorized is a great idea for boys.

Gifts for Teen Boys

Like teenaged girls, Music, Movies and Gift Certificates are always a great idea. Does he play a musical instrument? Does he like sports? Is he always looking for ways to fix up his car? Of course, hard cash is a favorite as well. Anything to do with gaming equipment for Playstations and Xboxes are fun, if that is what he is into. Perhaps he shows an interest in photography. Help get him started with video and photography equipment. Ask him what his hobbies are, and find a plethora of ideas for teenaged boys.

Gifts for Pets

It's amazing the amount of gift ideas out there for animals. Pets love to be included in the festivities, and looking for gifts for them is a lot of fun. Cat toys, dog toys, scrumptious treats from simple to gourmet are out there for your favorite pet. New collars, leashes, houses, beds, blankets and even a new costume makes a pet feel especially appreciated, and will love to extra attention lavished on them from others.

Buying the perfect gift takes a little ingenuity, but lots of us draw blanks. It happens to all of us. Take a few moments to really think a gift through, and your loved ones are going to adore the gift you give. It truly is the thought that counts!

Gene Simmons Halloween Costumes

Halloween is coming; if you've got kids then you've probably received some suggestions on what they want to be this year. For boys the odds are on Batman, possibly The Joker, or even The Incredible Hulk, choose from any superhero you want. For the girls it's a princess or Tinkerbell or even a 50's sock hop girl. Now that we've got the kids taken care of, how about the adults? If you don't have any kids then you can plan to dress up and attend a Halloween party where you just might be remembered for your great costume.

Some of the best Halloween costumes are of people you know, everybody knows who Marilyn Monroe is, and it takes a leggy blonde with full lips to pull off that costume. You could dress up like a Star Wars character or even a nun. Most uniforms become costumes on Halloween, but what would it be like to dress as a member of KISS. You've got four to choose from, The Demon, The Starchild, The Spaceman and The Catman.

A lot of guys want to go for The Demon, but the guy with the longest tongue usually wins that bet. No matter, there are still three characters to choose from. If you plan to dress up this Halloween as a KISS character you'll need to find a place that has the make-up kit. If you know of a face painter you can always go that route. It's best to start looking in the summertime for somebody like that; you can save yourself some hassle if you have somebody who knows what they are doing.

Dressing up like The Demon will get you noticed all night long, it doesn't matter how many Halloween parties you go to, you're sure to be complimented. If you've got four guy friends who want to complete the band then you could have a great time hanging out together as KISS. Since Gene Simmons's show "Family Jewels" has been airing on A&E he's been getting a lot more attention so dressing up like The Demon will have people pointing at you all night long.

Shop around and find a good wig that compliments your Gene Simmons costume. You'll also need a rock star girlfriend, or wife to be by your side the whole time. If you've got some leather and high boots you could really look the part. The best thing about dressing up as a member of KISS is that their outfits on stage look like Halloween costumes anyway. Have fun this Halloween and dress up like a member of KISS.

1948 Broadway Shows

1948 was a banner year for Broadway shows in New York, with some of the world's favorite plays and musicals debuting in 1948. Almost all of these popular plays and musicals were made into films at some point, which indicates just how popular they were (and still are) with Broadway audiences. Some of the most popular 1948 Broadway shows include:

Mr. Roberts

This comedy opened on Broadway in February 1948, and starred Henry Fonda as Lieutenant Roberts, the beleaguered junior grade officer on board a cargo ship during the Second World War. Roberts wants to get off the ship and do some actual fighting, but the tyrannical captain won't sign his orders and let him go. This classic comedy was made into a film also starring Fonda, as well, along with James Cagney as the belligerent captain.

Anthony and Cleopatra

This classic Shakespearean play came to Broadway as a tragic drama, and played 126 shows before it closed. Staying true to the play, the drama showed the love affair between the beautiful Egyptian queen and the Roman soldier, and included a young Charlton Heston in a minor role as a soldier. It was made into a very famous film starring the then couple Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.

Oklahoma!

This uber-classic Rogers and Hammerstein musical is still beloved today, and it ran for over 5 years on Broadway. The love story between Curly and Laurey is at the heart of this musical, but the comedy, dancing, and acting also won it rave reviews. It was made into a motion picture in 1955 that is still a classic in musical innovation and adaptation today.

Summer and Smoke

The master playwright Tennessee Williams wrote "Summer and Smoke" about a southern minister's daughter at the turn of the 20th century. Lonely and naïve, she is courted by a boy she loved in her childhood, a doctor who is wild, unmanageable, and totally her opposite. This tragic drama was made into a film in 1961, and it played 102 performances in 1948 through 1949, and was revived several times throughout the years on Broadway.

Anne of the Thousand Days

This memorable drama tells the story of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, his wife who he had beheaded because she failed to give him the heir he desired, and he believed was having an affair. Veteran actor Rex Harrison played Henry on the stage, and this, like many other popular 1948 Brodway shows, was made into a film in 1969.

Kiss Me Kate

This remake of a Shakespeare play (The Taming of the Shrew) into a musical debuted on Broadway on Dec. 30, 1948, making it the last show to open that year. Cole Porter wrote the music and lyrics for the show, which may be one reason it remained on Broadway for nearly three years. It is actually a play within a play that follows the production of a musical while following the producer. The musical was made into a film in 1953.

Some of the most well known and beloved of all shows were 1948 Brodway shows, and many of them still live on today, still beloved on Broadway.

A Knight's Tournament Banquet Party Theme

Can there be any better party theme for any little boy with a big imagination than a Knight's Tournament Banquet? Let your little knight dress up in a suit of shining armour for his special day and the day can be filled with rescuing damsels in distress or fighting fierce fire breathing dragons. And when the rescuing and dragon slaying is all finished they can return to their castle where there will be time for tea and perhaps some tournament games.

Read on for some invitation, costume and decoration ideas for that perfect Knight's Tournament Banquet birthday party.

Children are at their most imaginative between the ages of three and ten and opportunities for pretend play should be encouraged in-order to ensure healthy development. A Knight's Tournament, although mainly associated with boys will also allow girls - or little princesses - to equally enjoy the adventure and fun.

As with any party, whether for children or adults, the degree of success is usually linked directly to the amount of planning and preparation that is put in in advance. Usually you should allow yourself around six weeks planning and preparation time. This should be ample time to get everything you will need together including costumes, decorations, party gifts and pieces for your menu. And not forgetting the invitations!

We would always recommend that you send your invitations out around three or four weeks before the party. Invitations that arrive much earlier are likely to be forgotten and anything later and you risk the chance that your guests may already have made plans for that day. So the rule would be; not too early and not too late!

For the invitations themselves, it is most likely that you would be invited to take part in a Knight's Banquet by nobility so your invitations should look the part. We have already published articles on princess and pirate invitations and we can take some thoughts from them. Royal invitations would look best on parchment or regal type paper, written or printed by the computer in a flowing handwriting style or font.

To make simulated aged parchment use heavyweight paper and age it by staining it in a weak solution of tea. If you want a few darker spots, leave a few (not too many) coffee granules on the damp paper - these will spread with the dampness in the paper. Dry with a weight on top to retain a flat surface. You cannot imagine royal invitations being folded and given out in plain envelopes; this would never be good enough.

Red ribbon and sealing wax with a royal seal made using a small coin (unusual foreign coin works best) and small length of red ribbon (or child's favorite color) and then the invitation rolled and held with more wax for the ultimate in luxury - this will require a responsible adult or well supervised child to complete.

If you are lucky enough to have your own Royal Seal, please ignore our suggestion of using a foreign coin and er, perhaps you could use your own!

We have the look, now we need to establish the words. First you need to write out what the invitation needs to state, this should include; name of guest, name of party giver, date, time and location at a minimum, and should also include any fancy dress theme or dress code if you want everyone to dress up. Lastly, include an RSVP address or contact details so that you can get an idea of how many guests to expect and who they are likely to be.

Don't forget that these are royal invitations and therefore the wording should reflect this. You could try something like;

"Hear ye, Hear ye.

By order of the King and Queen _(insert name)__ you are invited to a Knight's Banquet and Tournament to be given on the occasion of the sixth anniversary of the birth of their loyal knight Sir Charles of Essex.

To be held at; _________________________________________ on ___________________
At: ________________________________"

And don't forget you know live at the castle etc.

If you are looking for suitable costumes for knights and princesses then most online fancy dress costume suppliers should offer a good selection to choose from. Knights and Princess fancy dress costumes will become firm favourites in the dressing up box and will provide hours of enjoyment and adventure after the banquet. A selection of suitable costume accessories, swords, tiara, crowns, shields and royal robes will ensure that these costumes remain first out of the box.

For decorations choose the colours silver, grey, red and white. If using balloons than silver and white with a spot of red tied with grey, silver and red curled balloon ribbon. If you have access to the internet find some royalty free and colourful shields, print these out mount them on card board; cut them out and create your own round table banquet.

Alternatively, and if you want some quiet time to slow them down before they eat; print out some blank shields and allow each of our guests to create their own shield design using crayons or coloured pencils - or paint if you're really brave! These they can take home as part of their goody bag.

Easy gifts for goody bags would be 'anything' dragon, or knight themed for boys (figures etc) and perhaps a tiara and scepter for the princesses. If you want spend a little more, you could purchase stickers, tattoos or even knight's swords. We don't believe that you need to spend a fortune on the goody bag rather the value comes from the thought that has been given to ensuring that the contents fit the party theme.

What Type of Clothing Made Up a Roman Costume?

The Roman costumes worn by the ancients were often loose pieces of material that draped around the bodies of both men and women and were secured by pins. Women wore roman costumes called stola, which was essentially two pieces of fabric, one for the front, another for the back, that were held together by a series of safety-pin like clips (think Elizabeth Hurley and a more modest version of her Versace safety pin dress). Over this a palla was worn, which was essentially like a modern day shawl.

Men on the other hand, generally wore a toga, which interestingly enough became the clothing of prostitutes as well after the fifth century BC. Before then, both men and women were apt to wear a toga without any censure.

During this period, the color of Roman costumes also determined the status of those wearing the items. Magistrates and boys wore clothing that had a purple border. Generals wore togas with a golden border to signify triumph. Gods and royalty wore clothing that was a solid purple.

Roman costumes also include sandals that laced up the leg of the wearer. Both men and women wore these sandals, and it is believed that the finer the leather, the wealthier the wearer was. Interestingly enough, it was the Roman's who invented socks. These were developed to keep the feet of legionnaires warm in northern climates, such as Germany, which they encountered as their empire spread. These socks would have been worn, like today, underneath their shoes at the time.

How to Help Your Child Find the Right Halloween Costume

Children love Halloween! It's the candy, the parties, the haunted houses. It's decorating the yard with ghosts and goblins and taking the hayride to find that perfect pumpkin. But most of all it's the costumes they get to wear that make each Halloween memorable and special to both the children and their parents. October 31st, this yearly tradition when kids get to dress up in a costume that transforms them into superheroes, athletes, policeman, fireman and much, much more! Today there are so many great costumes for kids to choose from. With all the wonderful characters from Nickelodeon, Disney, the Cartoon Network or it could even be someone that your child looks up to in the community or in the armed forces. Children love having that perfect costume. That's why you'll see them running around in that same costume for months after Halloween is over - they love it!

Now comes the hard part - finding that perfect costume with them. Notice that I said "with them" because it's important to them that they have some say in what they ultimately wear. Boys are a little easier, but take it from me when I say that girls pretty much let it known they want to be involved in the process. What you think is cute and what your child wants may be two very different things. Of course we all know that the parent has the final say when it comes to what our children go out trick-or-treating in, but let them throw out some ideas. You might be surprised at how easy it is to come to a unanimous decision where everyone is happy.

Because there are so many great costumes to choose from, you can help your child decide by narrowing down his or her choices. Once you have a ballpark idea go to a Halloween costume website and look at all the different costumes under that character. Children are very visual and it always helps them to see the costume in its full glory. The decision is usually pretty easy after that.

Also don't narrow down their categories of what they can be. If your little girl can't decide whether to be a scary monster or a fairy princess, throw out the idea of a gothic princess. She can have the best of both worlds! Any traditional costume whether for a boy or a girl can be quickly changed over to the "dark side" by adding a little black gothic appeal to it.

Here are a few things to consider when picking out that perfect costume:

  • Safety - be sure that if they are wearing a mask make sure it doesn't impair their vision.

  • Comfort - dress for the weather - they will be running around all night and you don't want them sweating up a storm in their costume.

  • Fit - you don't want the costume to be too big or too small - make sure it fits them perfectly.

Just remember to have fun with your child when you're looking for their Halloween costume this year. When you see their face light up when they put that costume on, all the fussing and fighting over finding that one perfect costume will all be worth it!

How to Make Cheap Homemade Birthday Party Invitations

You are thinking that you don’t have the time are talent for this. However you can do it, and we will take you through all of stepson how to make cheap homemade birthday party invitations, that will be as attractive as any store bought cards.

Search the web for free templates with orb without designs already in place. Be aware that some web sites only allow you to access free templates and or designs if you purchase your blank cards from them.. However there are some sites that have free templates, designs and wording samples that are truly free.

If you are making invitations for a senior citizen’s birthday look for clip art from the time when they were small children or teenagers. If you can find a baby picture of Grandpa or a school picture, what a cool invitation that would make.

My cousin’s father-in-law was born in 1928, so when she made the invitations for his birthday party she put a picture of Mickey Mouse on the front of the invitation , since Mickey was also born in 1928 also. On the Front of the card She wrote Happy Birthday to Jack Smith and Mickey Mouse. Her father-in-law loved it!

The next thing you have to do is choose the wording. You may of course use the standard type of invitation verse but it would be so much more unique if you created your own wording.

When you buy you’re your blank invitation cards, get a few extra , incase of a paper jam, ink smear or other un-forseen problem

Have extra ink cartridges on hand. You don’t want to run out in the middle of printing your invitations.

Before you start printing the project run one copy on a piece of paper the size of your invitation cards. This will let you know if there are any typing errors, and you can make sure everything is lined up the way you want it. The project shouldn’t take more than an hour so to complete.

Now that you know how to make cheap homemade birthday party invitations, enjoy the process.

If the birthday boy or girl was born on or close to a major holiday, incorporate symbols of that holiday on the invitations. A friends husband was born on the 4th of July, so she made the invitations for his party with an exploding firecracker for her design on the front and this quote from George M. Cohan “I’m a real live nephew of my Uncle Sam, born on the 4thof July”. My neighbor is a police officer and her kids made her invitations using a photo of her badge, hat and nightstick

For a member of the Clergy, use a symbol of his or her office ,such as a bible, pulpit, chalice, cross or Star of David.

The design choices for children are just about endless. Cartoon characters, superheroes, animals, Disney characters, toys and the list goes on. Teenagers are a little harder to find clipart of guitars, CD’s rock and roll , car and sports images are all good choices for teen birthday party invitations.

Let invitations for adults reflect their careers, hobbies or other interests.

My husband loves to hunt and fish, so of course I made his birthday party invitations to reflect those interests. He really like the one I made when I used a picture of him standing on the bank of casting out into the river.

You can use free templates and print then with your wording choice and then rubber stamp the designs, for another unique approach to invitations. But, that is very time consuming time.

Now share the fun, get a bunch of your friends together, and teach them how to make cheap homemade birthday party invitations.
