Every year Hollywood has a big effect on the popularity of Halloween costumes and this year is no different. A Green and Purple Halloween - Quick Guide to the Incredible Hulk Movie Costumes

According to Marvel comics, gamma ray turns you green. At least that's how it's been since 1962 when the Hulk was brought to life by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. She-Hulk, Doc Samson, and the Leader all share origins with the Hulk from gamma ray exposure and they all have green skins.

So in 2003, upon release of Ang Lee's Hulk movie, lots of fans ran around in green bodypaint hopefully with purple pants (or any pants), and a bad hair cut. The 2003 Hulk movie really made a splash in the costuming world. There were plenty pictures of fans in conventions dressed up as the green goliath, although some were not so goliath.

The recent release of the 2008 movie, The Incredible Hulk, adds another version of the Hulk's costume in the mix. Although the differences are minor, there are enough variances between the two Hulks that are noticeable. Note too that we're only talking about Hulk movie costumes here. Can you use the old Hulk costume to represent?

If your child was a toddler or infant then, the answer is obviously no since he or she is five years older now and the costume wouldn't fit. But you should learn the difference in case they want to be the Hulk again for Halloween this year and they know the difference.

First, note that many fans regard the 2008 movie as more loyal to the comic books. This mainly means the storyline, the villain, and the supporting characters. The 2003 movie is so universally rejected that the 2008 movie was dubbed a reboot. Basically, the fans view it as a "do over" so that the 2003 movie can be filed away.

But, here's a caveat for costuming. The 2003 Hulk image resembles the comic book Hulk better than the 2008 Hulk. Mainly, the trademark green skin and purple pants are better represented in the 2003 Hulk.

The 2008 Hulk is not far off, but he has variances. First, he doesn't wear the traditional purple pants. But the purple pants made the movie as an easter egg. Second, he has a darker shade of green and his veins show as noticeable streaks of an even darker shade of green. And lastly, his muscles are shown to ripple. Both the veins and the rippled muscles remind me of roided out wrestlers when straining for attention.

The above bit of information is helpful to you if the 2003 Incredible Hulk costume still fits any of your children. Maybe the teen can pass down the Hulk costume to the younger boy (or girl). You may be able to save money and reuse the '03 costume by telling them that it's the better version because it looks just like the comic books. I always asked myself why grown-ups behave that way when I was a child. Since I was a teenager I felt in love with costumes and spooky dresses. I liked to dress up as villains from scary films like Jason, Freddy Krueger or Leatherface from the Texas chainsaw massacre. I had my fun scaring little kids with these kind of looks but it didn't take long until I realized that they weren't very original or special at all.

When I was around 17 I found out for myself that I liked couple costumes quite much. Of course that was the time when I had my first real relationship and I was deep in love. So what could be a better sign that we are together than dressing up with the same costumes for Halloween. Some of our friends made fun of us and thought it was a little bit childish but they changed their opinion when they realized that many adults do just the same. So suddenly we weren't the only ones that entered the next Halloween party in costumes for couples. Back then many of our friends thought that it was a funny thing and we started to think about costume ideas all together long before the parties began.

The following year couple costumes were the hit in my circle of friends and even their siblings. A whole gang of people was going to the Halloween parties of the following years in Halloween costumes that complemented each other. Occasionally we were in pairs but most of the times we appeared as complete groups of several people. We had all kinds of costumes. Sometimes we dressed up like characters of the fairy tales, sometimes like TV or movie figures but the most fun we had when we all went as superheros from our favourite comic magazines. In any case we had a lot of fun these days and none of us has forgotten the Halloween parties we had then.

We were all teenagers and went to school. We didn't have much money but we had enough free time to make our costumes by ourselves. Some of us did pretty well in crafting the costumes and we all shared our skills to help each other getting all together. It really became a teamwork project that began several weeks before Halloween was near. Some accessories we bought from Halloween stores because they were to complicated to produce. After the second year we had several costumes that we could combine to new ones so that there was a good supply to create fresh costumes from the previous Halloween costumes.

Star Trek Costumes - Go Where No Costume Has Gone Before

Year after year, each Halloween there are several costumes that are either new or extremely popular. I remember when many boys were dressed as Spider-man after the popularity of the movie.

This year I am sure we are going to have a number of "new" ways of dressing up for Halloween and I am sure that a Michael Jackson Halloween costume is going to show up in many Halloween adult parties.

Throughout the years, many men have been dressing up as Elvis Presley. In fact there are some men who dream of looking like Elvis and not just around Halloween but they use every opportunity they have to dress like the King and in their own way, pay tribute to the now gone great singer they admire.

Therefore, I predict that starting this year, we will have many men and women wear a Michael Jackson Halloween costume or a wig that will make them look like him. Merchants are also getting ready for this trend and many online stores will be including many more Michael Jackson costumes than ever before.

If you prefer to save money and make your own Michael Jackson costume, there are a few things you can do.

Get a long sleeve t-shirt in either light blue or gold. Glue some gold or silver gift wrap ribbon on the sleeves (usually 3 bands of ribbon) and wear it on top of a black t-shirt. Make sure that the black t-shirt collars shows. If necessary, sew, pin or staple the necks so that the neck from the black t-shirt will show at all times. A pair of black pants and you are good to go. Buy a cheap Trekkie gun at toy store to complete the theme.
